Peace Temple / World Peace Stupa
The Peace Temple, also known as the World Peace Stupa, is an iconic Buddhist monument located on a hilltop in Pokhara, Nepal. Perched at an altitude of approximately 1100 meters (3609 feet) above sea level, the stupa offers a captivating panoramic view of the Annapurna mountain range and the serene Phewa Lake below.
Built in 1973 by Nipponzan Myohoji monks, the World Peace Stupa is dedicated to promoting peace, harmony, and non-violence in the world. The stupa’s design is steeped in Buddhist symbolism, with its white dome representing peace, and the golden spire symbolizing enlightenment. Four different statues of Buddha facing four cardinal directions adorn the stupa, embodying the teachings and compassion of Siddhartha Gautama.
